Meet the MAGNIFICEEEEENT
Masala Baba
He is The Traveller, The Spice Seeker, The Gatekeeper of Flavour, The Legend of Indian Soul Food and now your endless source of myths and stories, sharing his treasured cooking tips and wisdom over bottomless chai.
Baba is the Wise Soul.
Part sage, part storyteller, his gift was the art of collecting soulful food. Who roamed from the snow-tipped Himalayas to the coconut-scented shores of the South, gathering recipes whispered from village to village, preserving them like heirlooms in his weathered journal.
The Story of Masala, a blend of spices.
Long before borders were drawn and maps were named, the scent of spices carried whispers across the oceans. It was these tiny seeds — of pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, and clove — that lured explorers from Europe to the sun-warmed coasts of India. More precious than gold, these treasures perfumed royal tables, inspired voyages, and bound continents in the pursuit of flavour.
To India, spice was never mere seasoning — it was philosophy, medicine, and memory. Each grain told a story of harvests, rituals, and home kitchens where food was made with love and purpose.
A place of love stories
Our building houses a 19th century love story, a historic legacy and a multicultural spirit.
You’ll find us inside Safrano Palace, a 19th-century heritage building in the heart of Brașov’s old town. Once home to the distinguished Safrano family, the palace is forever linked to Alexandru Vaida-Voevod, one of the founders of the Great Union of Romania. Over the years, its halls have welcomed statesmen, writers, and travelers from across Europe — including legends like Ion Luca Caragiale and George Coșbuc and now our very own, modern day Masala Baba and our very own multicultural love story.
Blending the charm of historic Brașov with the vibrant flavors of India, Masala Baba continues the palace’s legacy as a place of stories, encounters, and timeless hospitality.
